What we collect
Account info: if you sign up, we store your name, email, and (if you use social login) profile photo, to run authentication and show your name on reviews.
Content you add: reviews, ratings, photos, favorites, claim requests, pickup/dine-in requests, and messages you send through the Contact form.
Location: only if you grant permission, your approximate location is used to sort "Near You" results. It's kept in a browser cookie for that purpose and isn't stored in our database.
What we don't do
We don't run ad tracking, sell your data, or share it with data brokers. There are no third-party analytics or advertising scripts on this site.
Africa Eats doesn't process payments. Pickup/dine-in requests are just a message to the restaurant — you pay them directly, however they normally accept payment.
Third parties we do use
Anthropic (Claude API): messages you send to the AI assistant are sent to Anthropic to generate a response.
Vercel & Neon: our hosting and database providers, who process data on our behalf to run the site.
Vercel Blob: if you upload a photo, it's stored there rather than on our own servers.
Restaurant data
Some listings are imported from OpenStreetMap, a public, open database of real-world places. That data (name, address, coordinates) is publicly contributed map data, not personal information about an individual.
Your choices
You can edit or delete your reviews and favorites at any time. To delete your account or ask what data we hold about you, reach out through the Contact page.
Questions
Africa Eats is an independent project, not a large company with a dedicated privacy office — but questions are genuinely welcome. Use the Contact form and we'll respond.
